Food For Thought

I keep coming across some very cool quotes by G.K. Chesterton. I've never read any of his stuff, but the quotes I keep reading are making me want to go out and find something he's written. I just read this, and in light of all the political debates and campaigning and whatnot, I found it to be quite accurate and humorous.

The whole modern world has divided itself into Conservatives and Progressives. The business of Progressives is to go on making mistakes. The business of the Conservatives is to prevent the mistakes from being corrected.

Anybody ever read any of his stuff? If so, any recommendations?

I do love him. Orthodoxy is his Mere Christianity, though honestly I think his theological stuff is kind of a tough read. He apparently was uber smart had a great command of the English language. He would ramble off entire books to his secretary all at once. They kind of read that way, honestly, like the ramblings of a really good college professor.

I suggest starting with his fiction, which is more fun and still packed with theology. My favorites are:

The Man Who Was Thursday (good surreal spy novel, lots of political talk)
Four Faultless Felons (four reverse mystery stories where you're trying to figure out how the person who committed the crime is actually innocent)
The Club of Queer Trades (in order to join the club, you have to invent an entirely new way of making a living)

fun stuff.
