Saturday-Universal Pancake Day

Saturday here at the Buckland house is Pancake Day. It's the one day of the week that we don't have to rush out of the house. No one's working or going to school. So we can relax, have a leisurely morning, and spend some time doing breakfast right.

I pretty much love all breakfast foods, but my daughters, particularly the oldest, request pancakes every Saturday. No waffles, or biscuits and gravy, or Eggs Benedict. Just pancakes. And bacon. With real maple syrup. They will not be fooled, and they will settle for no substitutes.

Then I read that my friend, Elaine, does pancake day on Saturday. And I also believe that the Hippses are Saturday Pancake People. What say you? Is Saturday Universal Pancake Day? If not, what do you do for breakfast on Saturday?

i haven't had pancakes at home in i don't know when, ang! my mom used to make them on either saturday or sunday, or sometimes for dinner. she used this rattle trap fire hazard griddle i remember that much! i am not a great pancake maker. i either make them small and flat like tokens or too big and smushy in the middle. i think it is the fact that there are three in the pan or something. i can't get the spatula to work right.
nowadays i eat cereal every morning!

Well, since my daughters insist on pancakes every Saturday, I've become quite the pro at making them. We make them from scratch (with buttermilk!), and I've got the recipe memorized by now, and it's pretty much down to a science. But only because we make them so often!

i can only imagine how yumm-Y those are...!

I will be over next Saturday!!
(Please share the recipe).
I ADORE blueberry pancakes, but we pretty much have Lucky Charms or some such thing on Saturday and every other day of the week...Homemeade pancakes are only for dinner around here.

instant pancakes for me. just add water. for a while there, we were sunday morning pancake people. we'd have some delicious downtime and then head off to church.

very nice for a guy who has had early morning commitments almost every sunday of his life! and alas, those days are once again upon us...

Just to confirm, the Hippses do, in fact, enjoy the Saturday pancake breakstravaganza. Actually, we usually rotate waffles and pancakes from week to week, but I believe the batter for the two is almost identical, so I think the waffle days still count towards the UPD (Universal Pancake Day). And we do always have bacon with ours, as well. I have no idea if our syrup is real maple, spruce, or balsa, but it's sweet and yummy, so I don't ask.

We have pancakes at least twice a week. I make them sometimes, but Wes is pancake chef a lot. He wakes up and says, "I'm gong to make pancakes for the girls." Very sweet. He makes tiny "baby" ones for Robin. She likes 'em little with no syrup. She hates messes. Lucy will eat more pancakes than you can imagine. She stands in the kitchen and chants "pancake, pancake," or runs as fast as she can to her high chair. Pancakes happen here a lot as they are happy family food.

Holly, those frozen pancakes are NAST-Y!!! I don't know why frozen waffles (Eggo) hold up better than the pancakes do. I haven't had them in so long, I don't know if they still sell them or not. I honestly don't know who would be buying them.

ang, jenni and i went to the store this evening and saw the frozen pancakes. i'd just skip em.
eggos are good! i even like them just plain, like a cookie.

Lily has pancakes several mornings a week. Suzanne makes them, with Chocolate chips, and then still manages to get Lily to school and herself to work.

Every Saturday, Lily and I and sometimes Suzanne go to the Jefferson House Restaurant. They have the best pancakes around.

Wow- popular post, Ang! Yes! Ronnie reminded me that pancakes don't have to just be made by Dad's on Saturdays; this last Saturday he said this. . . but really, I know he loves the gig and I don't want to take that away from him! Plus, there is no way I am going to make pancakes as successfully as he in the shape of a N,O,R,A and C,A,V,A,N. One morning I got an M,A,M,A. I also often am awakened by the children yelling out Cat! no Snowman! No, I want the Elephant! because we have these pancake molds for each season, and a circus set, too. If I do ever have to make them, at least I know one of Ronnie's secrets: Aunt Jemima makes a good, not too sweet, mix. I like it when he puts blueberries or bananas in. (but really, I'm a scrabled egg and coffee girl).

Wow! Who would've thought that a post about pancakes would be so popular?! Actually, I'm not surprised. Food always gets people excited. Especially good food, like pancakes.

Coming late to the party...but let me just say that I eat French toast every single day. Two whole eggs, one egg white, three pieces of bread and sugar-free syrup. Just what a growing girl needs.

Mmmmmm. I love French Toast, Kristen. I am a miser with my bread though. I tend to hoard it, since we go through it so quickly with the kids.

Shannon, I must get some pancake molds. That sounds like great fun :)
I've been using Aunt Jemima add water pancakes. The last time I made them I made them with milk instead and they were really good. But we are finally out of that mix and I am going back to scratch. Angela, you really should share your recipe. The one I have in a book at home looks really good, but I'd be willing to try yours since it is tried and true.
